ELKO, NV โ The Elko Police Department has a new EVO Hybrid robot for its bomb squad, purchased with a $500,000 donation from the William N. Pennington Foundation. The upgrade lets officers investigate suspicious packages and disarm dangerous devices from a safe distance โ without putting personnel at risk. The Elko Bomb Squad covers five counties across northern Nevada.

- The Donation: The William N. Pennington Foundation provided the full $500,000 used to purchase the robot. No public funds were spent.
- The Technology: The EVO Hybrid robot allows the squad to investigate suspicious packages, disarm dangerous devices from a distance, and operate in hazardous environments without exposing officers directly.
- The Coverage Area: The Elko Bomb Squad is one of four in Nevada and covers Elko, Eureka, White Pine, Humboldt, and Lander counties โ five of Nevada’s seventeen counties.
- Regional Support: The squad also assists Reno’s Consolidated Bomb Squad and the Las Vegas Bomb Squad during major events.
- The Training: Bomb squad members are certified through the Hazardous Devices School at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, and receive continuous training.
